He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation."
Mark 16:15

Morningside works to fulfill this command not only through our local ministries, but by participating in the cooperative program and special mission offerings throughout the year.  Here are some of the missions in which we are active.

Local Missions

Morningside Baptist supports the work of our local Salvation Army Service Center.  The center maintains a thrift shop for people in our area to buy needed products, a food bank to help families in need and has a mobile canteen in which to respond to disaster relief.  Our local canteen has been dispatched most recently to hurricane relief efforts in Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi.  We budget $1,000 per year to assist this important ministry.

Special Missions

Special ministries exist to allow us to respond to the needs within our community.  The funds budgeted for this mission area are disbursed according to our benevolence committee consisting of the pastor, chairman of deacons, and treasurer.

Cooperative Program

The cooperative program is a joint effort between local churches, state conventions, and the Southern Baptist Convention. Morningside contributes 10% of our tithes and offerings to this program through the Georgia Baptist Convention.  Combined with the support of other churches our state convention uses part of the funds for state mission projects such as providing training and information to assist local churches in fulfilling the Great Commission.  Funds are shared with the Southern Baptist Convention where the International Mission Board supports foreign missionary efforts and the North American Mission Board is involved with church planting.

Georgia Baptist State Missions

Georgia Baptists are busy seeking out the lost and sharing the Good News.  With our participation in the Georgia Baptist Convention we have the opportunity to join in the work with other sister churches across the state.  This work includes college ministries, new church plants, church training and promotion and the support of missionaries right here in Georgia.  Through our support of state missions we serve and share Christ throughout the world.

North American Mission Board

New churches numbering over 1,458 are planted through the efforts of more than 5,153 North American Missionaries, whose efforts are coordinated through your North American Mission Board (www.namb.net) and individual state conventions.  Morningside supports these efforts indirectly through your tithes and offerings by contributing to the cooperative program.  Also every year we have our special Annie Armstrong Easter campaign in which all money collected goes directly to the NAMB.

International Mission Board

Through the International Mission Board (www.imb.org), Southern Baptists support approximately 5,100 missionaries who are engaging more than 1,170 different people groups around the world.  As one of the beneficiaries from the cooperative program Morningside supports this mission ministry through your tithes and offerings.  In addition every December we hold the Lottie Moon Christmas offering which directly benefits the IMB.
